Friday Round-Up Week 1 08-25-17

What a wonderful week it was! Some of our highlights from the week were building shark-proof houses, making our own count to 10 books, and making our class chain. It’s hard to believe that our first week is already over, but we can’t wait to start a new one on Monday! We talked together and came up with our favorite memories for the week. Some people enjoyed the park the most, while others enjoyed using their journals to remember what they did. Even better, we got to wrap up our week with an ice cream social after school!

Today we had a tower building challenge, but it was pretty tough to build a meter tall tower. We had our first reading block to get us ready for the library, and everyone had fun curling up with a good book, even Mr. Chris. We read ‘How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?’ by Jane Yolen, and we all enjoyed seeing all the different dinosaurs in the story. Our project to wrap up our week was a sheet saying our name, three things we like, three things we don’t like, and 3 things we’re afraid of. Some people were scared of zombies, while other people talked about how much they love rainbows and their family. Thanks to everyone for being so honest and excited to share about themselves!

Looking ahead to next week, we have a lot coming up. On Monday, we make our first trip to the library, so let’s get ready to read!!! We leave for the library at 9:15 on Monday, so make sure your ready to rock. Monday is also the first day of our first official exploration. We are going to be talking about animals, starting with Godzilla. We are going to be gathering information about bearded dragons, making all kinds of observations of Godzilla, and trying to answer the questions we have. We also start our math investigation for September, figuring out volume by asking “Which holds more?” It is incredibly exciting to be diving into these awesome questions!

Classroom updates!! First and foremost, all students should have a painting shirt or smock next week. We are going to start working with paint, so a cover-up would be great. This can be an apron, an old shirt, a smock, anything. We discussed some items the students would like for the classroom and they suggested fake food or cookware for the kitchen. They also suggested finding more costumes and props for dress-up. If you have any of these laying around, let us know!

Our first book order went home today as well. If you want to place your order online, you can just visit Scholastic’s website here: https://orders.scholastic.com/R9YHT . Remember that every book you order through Scholastic helps get more books for our classroom!
