So many friends

It is great having partnerships and celebrations together. Our work with Ms. Alex’s class is getting really cool, as we are finally prepping for actually writing the thing. Petro, Timo, and Teddy decided that they wanted to interview both kids and teachers about the art projects, since they have two different perspectives. Max and Gael are asking about the explorations each class is doing, and they wondered how they could find out what the kids enjoyed the most. Yianni, Paolo, and Panayiotis didn’t want to find out just what people are singing for the Holiday celebration, they want to find out why each class is singing what they are. Sokrates and Conrad debated, not just what news there was, but what was important enough for them to include. Since Nicky and Junie were discussing interviewing classes about the books they are reading, they talked about the books they personally were reading too. Stella, Tove, and Anja are making a comic strip about each afterschool activity, so they wondered how to make each one funny. Ella, Niki, and Gia actually finished making up their survey about recess activities, so they made copies and handed them out to the teachers. Maeve and Rebecca wanted to interview each teacher with a pet, so they went around and booked slots to interview all of them (mine is Monday morning!). This is a great opportunity for the class to practice a longer term writing project and partner with some fantastic older students. Great work everyone!

We also partnered with Ms. Anna’s class on our mural, which was incredible. We made sure that we planned out the entire ocean scene, so all of the beach would be together, although a sandbar and island did appear when we were painting. We also talked about how we would work together and build off our sketches, which helped us a lot. I am thrilled with the work we did, although a couple of people want to finish up next week. What a great community art piece.

Today we celebrated Junie’s birthday and it was quite a treat. Mr. Steve came in and read Rosie Revere, Engineer to us, an absolutely phenomenal book. It was great hearing not just the history of these amazing women, but Mr. Steve talked about how real life engineers never give up and try a different thing after something doesn’t work. What a fantastic story. Happy Birthday Junie!
