A Visit from the Museum

Today we were lucky enough to have the Hellenic Museum visiting us again. Our time with them began with the story of the Phoenix, which had Anja in stitches, she was laughing so hard. Then they explained how we can tell their stories from examining Greek pottery. Paolo interpreted the horse on a vase to show that they were moving around, while Yianni proposed that the two people on the vase were fighting over land. On their bowl, Rebecca noticed a tiger, which she thought meant they might have been in a zoo. Sokrates, maybe prompted by the Little House book, wondered if they were hunting the animals? Timo explained to the class that the hunters might have been scared for a little bit, but the story on the whole was hilarious! Max and Teddy worked together showing the plate from their group, which Max explained featured night soldiers. It was a really interesting project for the class to undertake.

We then acted out a play for the labors of Herakles, which was super exciting. Yianni was a model king, while Tove was a wise priest for Athena and Gia was 1/3 of Cerberus, which requited a lot of growling on her part. The class then designed and painted their own monsters, like Sokrates with his ‘super fast monster’. Everyone in the class was practically quaking in their boots as they heard about these monsters. What a great visit! Stay warm and safe this weekend.
